[Blog] De VGA Awards 2010

Elk jaar, rond deze tijd, wordt in Las Vegas de Video Game Awards georganiseerd doo Spike TV, een zender die hier in Nederland niet te ontvangen is. Hoewel het evenement elk jaar een boel pers en bekende Amerikanen trekt, is het ook een goed moment voor uitgevers om nieuwe titels voor het eerst te laten zien. Zo werden Forza 4, Uncharted 3, The Elder Scrolls 5 en Mass Effect 3, om er maar een paar te noemen, voor het eerst getoond. Spektakel dus. Maar hoe zit het met de Awards zelf? Net als elk jaar hebben de producenten van de show zich een slag in de rondte gewerkt om de meest onzinnige categorieeen te verzinnen. Wat dacht je bijvoorbeeld van de beste vrouwelijke rol van een echt bestaande actrice? Deze bizarre categorie werd gewonnen door Tricia Helfer die de rol van Sarah Kerrigan in Starcraft II voor haar rekening nam.

Nou, lekker belangrijk natuurlijk. Maar nog absurder wordt het door alle sub categorieeen. Zo werd Red Dead Redemption tot winnaar gekozen in de overkoepelende Game of The Year categorie maar werd RDR voorbij gestreeft door Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood in de categorie Best Action Adventure. Dus RDR is de beste game van afgelopen jaar alleen AC Brotherhood is een betere Action Adventure game? Bizar… Zelfde verhaal met Call of Duty Black Ops dat er vandoor ging met de prijs voor Best Shooter. Maar Halo: Reach werd de beste Multiplayer Game. Ik bedoel. waar slaat dat in godsnaam op? De singleplayer mode van Black Ops was bagger. De enige reden dat de game deze prijs wint is vanwege de multiplayer mode. Maar goed…hopenlijk wordt het nog eens wat met deze show en is het in de toekomst ook de moeite waard om de show zelf te bekijken en niet alleen de nieuwe trailers…
